Supplement and Nutritional advice

Important to Note:

This advice is not intended to suggest that by following it, it will give anyone immunity from contracting Covid-19,  it will not.


Nor does it detract from the advice to follow all of the HSE guidelines.


Nor does it mean that by following this advice if already infected,

that it can stop people from spreading it.

If you have been diagnosed as positive for this virus, then please follow all of the HSE guidelines in relation to isolation. 

This advice is offered here now due to the fact that we are hearing - at this time* - that for most people who contract this particular virus, about 80% of these will have mild symptoms. 

However it appears from the latest information* that the people who are most at risk to date, are known to have underlying medical conditions and as a result - will most likely have weakened Immune systems also.

A weakened Immune system can be caused by any number of factors, 

but it is well known that malnutrition and or poor dietary habits is a major factor for a weakened immune system.    

For our seniors in particular, this can be significant due to a number of reasons.

Many seniors with dental issues will not be eating the recommended 5 fruits and vegetables a day, to get adequate vitamin C intakes.  Eating overcooked vegetables - heat destroys vitamin C.

These two vitamins alone play a vital role in supporting our immune systems.

And we now know that Vitamin C is a metabolic on-demand substance, which is produced in elevated amounts by almost all other mammals when needed, (except humans and primates) in times of injury, illness or infection, and similarly that when we are ill, our bodies will need to utilize even more of it.

Epidemiological studies indicate that hypovitaminosis C is still relatively common in Western populations, and vitamin C deficiency is the fourth leading nutrient deficiency in the United States.

Reasons include reduced intake combined with limited body stores. 


Increased needs occur due to pollution and smoking, fighting infections, and diseases with oxidative and inflammatory components, e.g., type 2 diabetes, etc. 

Ensuring adequate intake of vitamin C through the diet or via supplementation, especially in groups such as the elderly or in individuals exposed to risk factors for vitamin C insufficiency, is required for proper immune function and resistance to infections."

So it is logically prudent to endeavor to support the immune systems of those most at risk, namely the aged, those with chronic illness and those with poor nutrition, as this will give their bodies more of a fighting chance if exposed to this virus.


Recommended vitamins and supplements that are known to help support our immune system

Vitamin C  - 1000 mg  4 times a day

Vitamin D3  5,000 iu / Vitamin K2 100mcg a day.

Vitamin A 10,000 iu daily.

Selenium  200mcg a day with food


Zinc 30 mg twice a day with food

Magnesium 200 to 500 mg daily.

People who are potentially more vulnerable now need to be advised about taking Vitamin C and D supplementation and these other nutrients to help support their immune systems.


This has already happened in China with doctors on state television advising as such,

and as a result demand for Vitamin C has increased dramatically in Asia.
